Be Crocwise – Crocodile Safety Song

Client: Northern Territory Government
Languages: English, Kriol + explainer versions in Yolŋu Matha, Tiwi, Anandilyakwa, Murrinhpatha

Helping communities stay safe around crocodiles through story & song.

  • Crocodiles are a normal part of life in northern Australia, but communicating crocodile safety messages across diverse communities — with many languages and varying literacy levels — is a major challenge.

Conventional resources delivered in English often fail to reach audiences in a way that is clear, memorable and engaging.

  • Educational Animations used music, storytelling and animation to communicate essential crocodile safety behaviours.

An animated song delivers key messages through rhythm and repetition, helping children and families remember how to stay safe around rivers, billabongs and waterways.

This is followed by an animated explainer video that reinforces key safety messages and provides cultural and historical context about crocodiles in northern Australia.

To support multilingual communication and accessibility, the explainer was produced in seven Top End Aboriginal languages, while the song was delivered in English and Kriol.

  • The Be Crocwise video has become one of the most widely viewed videos on the Northern Territory Government YouTube channel, demonstrating how creative animation and storytelling can improve public safety communication and reach diverse audiences.
